BLUES EARN FIVE MEDALS ON DAY 2 OF U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field teams earned five medals on Day 2 of their 2023 U SPORTS championships (Mar. 10) hosted by the University of Saskatchewan.
 
TEAM STANDINGS: The Blues men currently sit second in the standings with 42.5 points, while the women sit tied for sixth place with 27 points.

WOMEN'S RESULTS: 

Leading the Blues was veteran long jumper Jasmine Lew. The Coquitlam, B.C. native captured second place in long jump with a distance of 6.03m.

In pole vault, third-year Alex Throndson finished fourth with a height of 3.83m, while teammate Bryn Walsh placed tenth with a height of 3.63m.

In her first U SPORTS championship appearance, second-year thrower Voke Ewhrudjakpor placed seventh in shot put with a distance of 12.74m.

MEN'S RESULTS: 

Blues fourth-year athlete Cam Bruce completed his second-ever heptathlon today, finishing in second place with 5,135 points. The U SPORTS silver medalist placed first in the 60m hurdle (8.05), sixth in pole vault (4.05m) and ninth in the 1000m (2:55.43).

Third-year sprinter Emmett Bravakis captured silver in the 300m with a time of 34.38. With the result, Bravakis bested his third place finish in the 2022 U SPORTS Championships.

Second-year standout Aidan Grout captured his second-straight U SPORTS high jump medal. The Pitt Meadows, B.C. native earned silver with a height of 2.11m. Blues veteran jumper Femi Akinduro also competed in high jump, placing seventh with a height of 1.94m.
 
In long jump, the Blues were led by veteran jumper Eric Che. Che captured the silver medal (7.35m), while teammate Akinduro secured crucial points for the Blues in fifth place with personal best distance of 7.21m.

In the 60m hurdle, second-year sprinter David Adeleye finished just off the podium in fourth with a time of 8.18.
