TRACK AND FIELD COMPETING AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's track and field teams head to York University to compete at the 2022 OUA provincial championships from March 18 - 19.

The Friday will start with the women's weight throw at 9:00 a.m. and will wrap up with track events on Saturday. 

The championships will be streamed live on OUA.tv and you can follow along with live results online.
 
MEN'S PREVIEW: All eyes will be on two-time U SPORTS and OUA triple jump gold medalist Femi Akinduro. The Etobicoke, Ont., product is currently ranked number 1 in U SPORTS and the OUA in the triple jump.

Third-year thrower Matt Loenhart will be looking to lead the Blues in the weight throw.

In the high jump, rookie Aiden Grout is ranked first in the OUA and U SPORTS, jumping 2.08m at the Can Am Classic in Windsor (Feb. 20).

Third-year jumper Eric Che holds the number two spot in the country and province in long jump, while Liam McRae is looking to improve on his eighth-place provincial ranking in the pole vault.

On the track, Cam Bruce is looking to repeat his gold medal-winning performance at the 2020 OUA championships. The 2020 U SPORTS championship silver medalist in the 60m hurdles is currently ranked second in the country and province. David Adeleye sits fifth in the same event, looking to make the podium this weekend.

In the 300m, Emmett Bravakis' time of 33.77 ranks him first in the OUA and second in U SPORTS, while Marcus Nandlal and Moses Aidoo hold the second and fourth spots, respectively, in the OUA for the 600m.

Sophomore runner Rohan Nowbotsing is looking to work his way on to the podium in the 1000m and 1500m, currently ranked just outside the top 3 in both events.

The men's 4x200m relay is expecting big results this weekend, currently ranked second in the OUA and fourth in the country. Bravakis and Bradley were part of the 4x200 team that won a silver medal at the 2020 U SPORTS championships.

In the 4x400m relay, the Blues are ranked number two in the conference

WOMEN'S PREVIEW: Veteran runner Jazz Shukla is going for gold in both the 1000m and 1500m. The Toronto product is ranked first in the 1000m in the country and sits second in the 1500m in both U SPORTS and the OUA.

Also on the track, Jasmine Lew and Sabine Cazeau are looking to make some noise and reach the podium in the 60m, ranked third and fourth in the province, respectively. Keep an eye out for sophomore runner Elizabeth Martin who is the reigning OUA silver medalist in the 60m. Martin was on the 2020 OUA silver medal-winning 4x200m team and this year's edition is currently ranked second in the province.  

Luiza Lena and Paulina Procyk are ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, in the OUA in the 60m hurdles.

The 4x400m team are ranked third in the province and are hoping that equals a podium finish this weekend.

On the field, look no further than fourth-year high jumper Emily Branderhorst, who is the reigning U SPORTS and OUA champion and current number one high jumper in the nation. Joining Branderhorst will be Emma Dale and Bella Willett, who are both ranked third in Ontario and fourth in Canada.

Kristen Schulz finished first in the province and the country in the triple jump in 2020 and second in long jump at the 2020 OUA championships.  

Second-year pole vaulter Alexzandra Throndson sits second in the province and third in Canada and is hoping to repeat her gold medal-winning performances at the OUA and U SPORTS championships in 2020.

Voke Ewhrudjakpor will lead the Blues in the throws to round out the field events.
