The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's curling team welcomed seven teams to the Thornhill Curling Club on Saturday (Dec. 2) for the U of T Invitational Bonspiel.
For the day, the Blues team consisted of Grace Cave, Janice Pang, Eri Ohihara, Stella Armstrong, and Daniella Serra, while U of T skip Amanda Smith also competed with an OUA Selects team.
In the eight team draw, the Blues began their bracket of competition versus the York Lions. In a tightly contested first match, Toronto came out on top in the GTA battle winning 5-3 to advance to the semifinal round.
Facing off against a very tough Laurier Golden Hawks next, the Blues were knocked off 6-3, pushing them into the bronze medal round to close out their three games for the day.
U of T and Brock went head-to-head in the third place game to finish the full day of competition. The Blues were able to claim their second win of the day, defeating the Badgers 6-4 to finish with the invitational bronze.
The home event marked the conclusion of the fall semester competition schedule for the Blues. U of T will return to the sheet in the new year, opening 2024 at the annual McMaster Bonspiel scheduled for January 6-7 in Hamilton.
