The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's curling team came up short of advancement at the 2025 OUA Women's Curling Championship, finishing round-robin play with a 1-3 record.
Hosted by Laurentian University at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club in Sudbury, Ont., Toronto competed in four matches across the first two days of competition. Round-robin matches saw the Blues face-off against York, TMU, McMaster, and Brock.
In the opening draws of the provincial showcase on Friday (Jan. 31) morning, U of T earned a dominant 12-3 win over the York Lions. The Blues were buoyed by seven points scored between the second and third ends, before then adding another five in the sixth end to secure the victory.
However, the fast start came to a halt later in the evening as Toronto fell 10-3 versus TMU. The Blues and Bold opened their match exchanging scores between the first three ends. Seeing U of T trailing by one, 3-2. TMU were able to pull away though, registering seven more points through the next four ends played.
On Day 2 of the OUA championship, Toronto looked to bounce back in their contest against the McMaster Marauders, but would fall just shy 10-7. The Blues led 5-3 after the first three ends, but a four point fourth and three point fifth for the Marauders made the gap just a little too large for Toronto to overcome.
The Blues then closed out their run at the championship with a tough 11-4 loss versus the Brock Badgers. Toronto once again found themselves battling from behind as they trailed 6-0 after the first two ends. The Blues were able to add three in the third to cut the lead in half, but the Badgers extended their lead in the end to advance themselves into Day 3.
This marks the second consecutive season the Blues finished 1-3 through the round-robin matches at the OUA championship. With a young roster consisting primarily of first and second year student-athlete, the valuable experience will be of continued importance as the Blues continue their team growth.
