BLUES ON THE HUNT FOR GOLD AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIP

To mark their spot in the OUA final, the Varsity Blues men's tennis defeated the York Lions 4-3 on Saturday (Oct. 7) night at Mayfair Toronto East.

The Blues came out with the doubles point after taking the first victory from top duo Rassam Yazdi and Michael Chu 8-4, before Arden D'Aniello and Alexander Luchak picked up an 8-5 victory in the doubles third-slot.

In singles play, the York Lions took victories in the top three slots from Max Tokarev, David Gavberg and Georg Zoidl. Raghav Sundararaman scored a 6-0, 7-5 victory for Toronto in the four-slot over Emilio Velazquez, while Alexander Luchak had a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Christian Giusto in the six-slot for the Blues. Charles Zheng sealed the deal for Toronto in a three-set thriller against Charlie Refausse.

Switching to singles action, the Blues earned four singles victories to secure the quarter-final win. D'Aniello continued his strong day with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot for the Blues. The trio of Raghan Sundararaman (6-0, 6-1), Tyler Lunaria (6-0, 6-3), and Charles Zheng (6-1, 6-0) rounded out the quarter-final victories for Toronto.

Looking ahead, the Blues will face off against the Western Mustangs, in a rematch of last year's OUA final, in the championship decider on Sunday (Oct. 8). First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
