BLUES OVERWHELM MARAUDERS FOR SECOND TIME

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team traveled to Hamilton on Wednesday (Ot. 25) evening to face NCWP rival McMaster for a second time this season, earning another dominant 18-3 victory.

In the first meeting with the Marauders just nine days prior, the Blues previously won 20-3 in their home pool at the U of T Athletic Centre.

With seven players out due to injury for the Wednesday night showdown, Blues head coach George Gross, Jr. elected to start an younger core unit to see what several of the newcomers could do. The players responded to the new found responsibility in a resounding manner, shutting out the Marauders, while jumping out to a 6-0 first quarter lead.

It was more of the same over the next two quarters with the Blues posting consecutive four goal wins to carry a 16-1 advantage into the final frame.

The two teams then traded goals twice to close out the game.

Rookie center forward Lillian Wheatley and rookie utility Sarah Neal produced the first hat-tricks of their young U of T careers, and they were matched by third-year attacker Hannah Levin who also notched three goals in limited playing time. Four more Blues popped in a pair of goals: fourth-year co-captain center forward Julia DeCaire, second-year utility Sidney Gagne and rookies Josie Andrist (utility) and lefty Liana Sheridan. Second-year utility Rose Esplen added the other goal.

Fourth-year goalie Averi Doxtator was flawless in her two quarters of work, while goalkeeper Gabrielle Vas worked the second half making six saves including four in the fourth quarter.

Up next for the Blues is a three-game NCWP weekend tournament at Queens next weekend.
