BLUES SWEEP ROAD SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season schedule with a pair of Saturday (Oct. 21) road wins, defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 8-6 and the McMaster Marauders 11-10.

Traveling to Waterloo for the final regular season weekend, the Blues opened the day with an early morning contest versus the host Golden Hawks. In a back-and-forth affair which saw Toronto ahead by just one at the half, the Blues were buoyed by another sensational outing from fourth-year middie Rylin Cormier with four goals. Meanwhile, second-year middie Rheanna Swanson added to her season totals with a hat-trick, including what would be the game-winning goal. Michaela Kitor rounded out the scoring for the Blues with a single marker assisted by Mary Frost.

In the second game of the day, U of T faced off with the Marauders in an even tighter contest. Following a slow start in the first quarter, Toronto exploded for nine goals between the next two periods. Cormier tallied another hat-trick and an assist, while the Blues saw even more players find the back of the net. Lily Brooks also secured a hat-trick, while Mary Frost added two goals, and Alexei Dokis-Dupuis and Julie Ibelings recorded single markers. Piper Sinyard would then tally the game-winner in the fourth quarter.

Next up, Toronto will hit the road for Kingston and the 2023 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship. Beginning the provincial showcase with pool play, the Blues will face Trent on Friday (Oct. 27) and Brock on Saturday (Oct. 28) morning before seeding determines the final Sunday (Oct. 29) matchups.
