BLUES REACH QUARTER-FINAL AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIP

FULL RESULTS

The University of Toronto men's curling team made it to the quarter-finals at the 2022 OUA championship in Guelph, Ont., dropping a 6-3 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks.

With only one returner from their 2020 team, this young Blues squad gained valuable experience from the championship weekend.

On Friday (Mar. 18), the Blues went 1-1 in pool play. After defeating the Rams in six ends by a score of 10-2, the Blues would lose a tight one to the Queen's Gaels, 7-6. Toronto would take the lead on Queen's going up 5-4 after five ends. The Gaels would score two in the seventh, putting the pressure back on the Blues, who could only score one in the eighth end.

In the night matchup, the Blues would drop another close contest, falling to the Brock Badgers by a score of 9-7.

Pool play would wrap on Saturday (Mar. 19) as the Blues would edge out the McMaster Marauders, 7-4 in the first matchup of the day. Toronto would finish pool play 2-2 but would make the quarterfinals in the last spot after winning a tiebreaker with the Western Mustangs.

On Saturday night, the Blues would be matched up with the defending champion, Laurier Golden Hawks. Even though the Hawks had a new roster from their 2020 championship team, Laurier showed their poise and championship mettle, taking down the Blues 6-3.
