The University of Toronto women's water polo team returned from a 21-hour, two-game day on Saturday, going to and from Albany, New York, to host the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday while coming away with a convincing 15-1 victory.
The Blues used a stifling first half press defence combined with a quick counterattack to shut out the Gryphons four to nothing in the first quarter and six to nothing in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead into half-time.
Guelph got its only goal of the game in the third period putting up a good effort in keeping Toronto to a two to one advantage.
The Blues returned to their shut form blanking the Gryphons three to nothing in the final frame.
Third year Chloe MacVicar and second year Serena Spencer each notched hat tricks to pace the Toronto attack. Fourth year co-captain Lauren Dundee, third year Vega Jones and second year Sidney Gagne netted a pair of goals each while third year Julia Decaire, second year Hannah Levin and first year Rose Esplen all tallied once.
Next up for the Blues is a tough three-State weekend tour. On Thursday, the squad travels to New York City to play the premier USA senior women's water polo club, the New York Athletic Club. The next day the team drives up the highway to Greenwich, Connecticut, for a pair of evening games against Greenwich Aquatics and NCAA #25 Marist College. The Blues complete their tour on Saturday morning with a tilt at Villanova University in Philadelphia.
