EARLY SUCCESS CONTINUES FOR BLUES AT HUMBER INVITATIONAL

The Varsity Blues men picked up two more wins on Saturday at the Dixie Curling Club in Mississauga, Ont. Humber College hosted a set of games for both men and women featuring programs from York University, Ontario Curling Council Academy, University of Toronto and Humber College.

In game one, U of T faced a very tough Humber squad who are highly ranked on the college circuit. The Blues started the game with the hammer and blanked the first three ends before seizing the opportunity for a multiple score picking up two points on the fourth-end for a 2-0 lead at the halfway mark.

They managed to steal another in the fifth stretching their lead to 3-0. Humber came back strong in the sixth, grabbing a three spot and tying the game. The Varsity Blues blanked the seventh-end keeping the all-important last rock in the last end. The strategy paid off as the Blues scored a single and secured the game 4-3. Second, Jacky Chung and skip, Daniel Hocevar turned in strong games for U of T.

In the afternoon match-up, U of T faced OCC Academy which is a top-level squad of some of the best 18-year-old players in Ontario. This was another tough game for the Blues and the game was a back-and-forth affair for seven ends. Once again, U of T carried the hammer into the last end up 4-3 and scored a four to end the game 8-3.

Hocevar had a very strong day overall, shooting over 80% at the skip position and leading his team to two victories.

Next up, the Blues will host their own event on December 3rd at the Thornhill Curling Club. Draws are at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
