The Varsity Blues got their season going in a positive way winning three times in Guelph, Ont., Saturday, playing their first OUA competition of the season.
The men scored victories over the Guelph Gryphons, Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders in the Guelph Invitation Bonspiel held at Guelph Curling Club.
In game one, U of T took down Guelph with an 8-3 victory with the home team shaking hands after seven ends. Skip, Daniel Hocevar led his team with a solid performance throwing last rocks.

In game two, the Blues faced a very tough Brock squad who defeated them in the OUA championship last season. This time U of T won the back-and-forth contest claiming the victory in extras as second, Ben Whitehouse won the extra-end draw to the button with a draw to the four-foot. Lead, Alexi Tracey, played an outstanding in his first collegiate showing for U of T.

In the final match, Toronto jumped ahead of the McMaster Marauders 3-0 early, but the Marauders battled back late in the game to force U of T skip, Matthew Prenevost to make a clutch take-out to force the game to extras again. This time Nelson Wang was the hero drawing the four-foot for the victory and giving the Blues a 3-0 day.

The Blues next OUA event will be on December 3rd when they host their own bonspiel at the Thornhill Curling Club. Draws run at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
