BLUES DOMINATE TMU, HEAD TO OUA EAST QUARTERFINAL

Box Score The University of Toronto women's soccer started their 2022 playoff campaign with a 2-0 win over the TMU Bold on Wednesday (Oct. 26) at Varsity Stadium.

With the win, the Blues will face the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees in the OUA East quarterfinal on Saturday, October 29 in Ottawa.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Throughout the early portion of the first half, the Blues and Bold traded attacking opportunities but neither team were able to break the deadlock. However, in the 14th minute fifth-year transfer Karly Hellstrom's set-piece found Blues second-year defender Cassie Chan, who buried her chance to put the Blues up 1-0.

In the second half, the Blues sat back and began to strike on the counter. With the Bold pressing and playing a high line, the Blues were able to find multiple opportunities against the TMU defence.

In the 66th minute Blues fourth-year striker Lindsay Bosveld found third-year defender Cassie Chan to extend the Blues lead to two. From there on out the Blues defence dominated, holding the Bold from recording a single shot on net in the second-half.

The game would end 2-0, with the Blues recording 20 shots to the Bolds six.

Fourth-year goalkeeper Maddy Nardin finished the game with one save.
