BLUES ADVANCE TO NCWP FINAL

The Varsity Blues women's water polo team completed a two game sweep of the NCWP West Division playoff with a convincing 24-1 victory over the host McMaster Marauders. Earlier last week, the Blues defeated the Guelph Gryphons 29-5.

By virtue of the two wins, the Blues finished atop the regional qualifier and booked a spot in the National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) championship game this Saturday at 2pm at the Athletic Centre.

The Blues offence was on full display in the first half as the team rolled up back-to-back 8-0 quarters to hold a commanding 16-0 lead heading into the half.

McMaster bounced back to score its only goal and held the Blues to just three markers. Toronto then put the game away in the final period with five unanswered goals.

Ten different players hit the scoresheet for the Blues. Three players, Tori Wilson (Kitchener, Ont.), Tyanna Supreme (Montreal) and Lauren Dundee (Perth, Scotland), led the attack with five goals each. Deena Charles (Langley, B.C.), Emily Grossman (Sunnyvale, California) and Vega Jones (Surrey, B.C.) notched two tallies apiece with singles going to Julia Decaire (Ottawa), Alexandra Lee (Palo Alto, California), Serena Spencer (London, Ont.) and Emily Wilkinson (El Segundo, California).

Hana Truchla (Toronto) handled the first half in goal and recorded a clean sheet while Arushi Madan (Cupertino, California) took over in the second half and gave up the one goal, but also made a tremendous cross-cage diving save.

The Blues will be going for their eighth consecutive perfect season at home on Saturday in the NCWP final against the Queen's Gaels.
