BLUES EARN FIVE MEDALS ON DAY 1 OF OUA FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's fencing team are well on their way to defending their provincial title as Day 1 of the OUA championship wrapped up on Saturday evening (Feb. 8) in Kingston, Ont.
 
Third-year veteran Leanna Lui won the women's epee individual title, defeating Western's Nicola Cheng in the gold-medal match. Emily Principe claimed the bronze medal, while Radmila Yarovaya placed in the Top 10 as well.
 
First-year standout Esther Falkson and fifth-year veteran Rebecca Jeffrey placed 2-3 in the women's sabre competition.
 
Fifth-year fencer Siobhan Drysdale claimed the women's foil silver medal, while Caroline Placko was seventh.
 
The championship wraps up tomorrow with the team relay events.
