The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Canada Cup, January 24-26, in Gatineau, Que.

Rookie standout Astrid Chandler claimed the gold medal in the under-23 women's sabre event, while also placing third overall in the senior women's sabre class.

Third-year veteran David Chen-Li led Toronto's men with a first-place finish in the under-23 men's foil, while teammate Teo Lemay earned the silver medal. Sebastian Tsun claimed a silver medal in the men's under-23 epee, while Colin McCurdy also reached the podium in the U23 men's epee event.Â

Leanna Lui earned a top 8 finish in the women's epee event, while Sebastian Tsun finished among the top 16 in the senior men's epee.

UP NEXT: The Blues now set their sights on defending their provincial titles. The OUA men's fencing championship is set for next weekend (Feb. 1-2) at Brock University, with the women's fencing championship scheduled for Feb. 8-9 at Queen's University.
