The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team hosts the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in the first round of the OUA playoffs this Wednesday, October 23 at Varsity Stadium.
Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The match is free and open to the public and will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
The Blues finished the regular season in fourth place in the OUA East division with a 7-4-3 record, while Ontario Tech was fifth with a 6-6-2 standing. Toronto defeated Ontario Tech, 3-1, in their lone regular-season meeting in 2019.
The winner of Wednesday night's matchup will advance to Sunday's quarter-final round and travel to face either the Ottawa Gee-Gees or Queen's Gaels.
The Blues have been led by two 2019 transfer students this season. Third-year midfielder Miranda Badovinac came to the Blues from the UAlbany Great Danes, while fifth-year striker Jenny Wolever joined the Blues after four seasons with the Queen's Gaels. The duo scored seven goals apiece to account for 58% of Toronto's offence in 2019.Â
Fourth-year veteran Levanta Staggolis has led Toronto in net, racking up four clean sheets and sitting fifth in the province with a .865 save percentage. She and Toronto's stellar back line have allowed less than one goal against per game this season.
Ontario Tech was led by forward Taijah Henderson and midfielder Sarah Foster, who scored four and six goals, respectively, this season. Alicia Chisholm has backstopped the Ridgebacks for the majority of the season, holding a .875 save percentage over 12 matches.
