BLUES GO 2-1 AT HOUSE LAUGHTON TOURNAMENT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team wrapped up their 2019 preseason schedule at the House Laughton tournament at Carleton University, October 18-20.

Fifth-year guard Chris Barrett was named a tournament all-star after racking up 62 points and 12 assists over three games.

Toronto 79, Bishop's 74

The Blues 25-19 advantage in the second quarter would prove to be the difference in their tournament-opener. Fifth-year guard Chris Barrett notched a game-high 23 points and four assists, while sophomore standout Inaki Alvarez had 14 points and six boards on the day.

Anthony Daudu tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, while Evan Shadkami had 10 points, five boards and three assists. Fifth-year forward Daniel Johansson led all players with 13 boards in the win.

Toronto 109, Acadia 80

A stellar second-quarter effort again led the Blues to victory as Toronto outscored Acadia 33-19 in the frame. Barrett knocked down 26 points and added four assists, while Johansson had 15 points and five boards.

Shadkami racked up 13 points, while Jeremy Aibi had 11 and Alvarez added 10 on the night. Somachi Agbapu added a game-high 10 boards in the win. 

Carleton 81, Toronto 75

Shadkami led the Blues with 18 points and four boards, while Eric Rwahwire notched 16 points and four rebounds. Barrett tallied 13 points, four assists and three rebounds and Agbapu recorded nine points and nine boards in the loss.

UP NEXT: The Blues open their 2019-20 regular season this Wednesday, October 23 as they travel to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
