The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team defeated the Muskingum Fighting Muskies by a final score of 99-68 in preseason action at UTSC on Saturday (Oct. 3) night.
Putting on a show for the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus crowd, the Blues outscored the Muskies through all four quarters including a decisive 23-8 final frame. Toronto was exceptional from behind the three-point line, registering 17 made three pointers on over 44 per cent from behind the arc.
The Blues starting five looked strong in the preseason outing, accounting for 79 of the 99 total points scored. Veteran forwards Simeon Jeffers and Lucas Prekovic each recorded a game-high 22 points. Prekovic was especially efficient, going 8-for-10 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Second-year guard Mikey Ballout added 16 points, while fifth-year centre Nigel Hylton rounded out the double-digit performances with 10 points in addition to seven rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. First-year guard Andrew Dangelas orchestrated the Blues offence with 10 assists, nine points and six rebounds.
Muskingum utilized their entire lineup seeing 18 players take to the court in the exhibition tilt. Owen Emig led the way for the NCAA III opponent, tallying 20 points in 20 minutes including five made three pointers.
Next up for the Blues will be a pair of exhibition games next weekend. Toronto first hits the road to challenge the Guelph Gryphons on Thursday, Oct. 8. They then return to the Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House on Friday, Oct. 9 to face the UNB Reds. Tip-off for the home game is set for 7 p.m., with tickets available to purchase at
