WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO RAVENS IN OTTAWA

Box Score The Varsity Blues women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 2) at MPP Park in Ottawa.

Second-year Blues midfielder Julia Gonsalves opened the scoring in the second minute of the match. Veteran striker Alyssa Golin sent a long cross into the box and rookie Erin Kelly redirected the ball towards the net. The ball bounced off of Ravens goalkeeper Rada Mintchev and Gonsalves was there to bury the rebound.

Carleton answered right back though as Tori MacFarlane received a long through ball and won a challenge with Toronto netminder Stephania Turyk to score on the open net just one minute later.

The two teams were deadlocked at the half.

Melanie Hoekstra scored the eventual game-winner in the 46th minute, redirecting a Vanessa Germano cross into the net.

Turyk ended the match with seven saves.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, September 9 when they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The match will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
