The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team defeated the York Lions 13-2 before tying the Trent Excalibur 12-12 on Saturday, September 16 at York University.

The Blues are now 2-0-2 in the early goings of the 2017 season.

Mary Anne Meerasabeer and Heather McDougall led the Blues with three goals apiece in the first game of the day. Sarah Jamieson and Tori McGillis chipped in with two each, while Melissa Holland, Ava Guse and Olivia Lewis each added one in the victory.

The second game proved to be a back-and-forth affair. The Blues trailed 5-4 at halftime, but bounced back to take an 8-6 lead with 17 minutes remaining. Trent then surged ahead, holding a 12-10 advantage with just 36 seconds remaining.

Toronto stepped up as Geneva Calder scored her third goal of the game with just 36 seconds remaining, and Jamieson secured the tie with her fourth goal of the contest with just 15 seconds on the clock.

Jamieson added two assists to her game-high four goals, while Calder and Holland both scored three times. Meerasabeer and Sarah Morgan each scored once in the draw.

The Varsity Blues are back in action next Sunday, September 24 as they travel to Oshawa to take on the Queen's Gaels and UOIT Ridgebacks.
