BLUES DROP ROAD BATTLE WITH GEE-GEES

Box Score

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday, September 1 at Matt Anthony Field.

The loss drops Toronto to 2-1 but they remain in a three-way tie for second place in the OUA East division following a strong season-opening weekend.

Gee-Gees midfielder Katherine Bearne notched what would be the only goal of the match in the 20th minute, sending a free kick into the back of the net.

The Blues came out firing on all cylinders in the second half but despite their best efforts were unable to solve Ottawa goalkeeper Margot Shore.

Second-year Blues netminder Vanna Staggolis made 12 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues have a quick turnaround as they take on the Carleton Ravens tomorrow (Sept. 2) at 1 p.m.
