The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team continued their hot start to the 2017 season with a convincing 4-1 victory over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Sunday afternoon (Aug. 27) at Varsity Stadium.

The win lifts U of T to a 2-0 record on the season and once again showcased their offence which now has seven goals over those two games.

Blues fifth-year midfielder Nicki Parkes opened the scoring in the sixth minute as she converted a Daniella Cipriano cross with an outstanding header to put Toronto ahead 1-0. The goal marked Parkes second in as many days.

The Voyageurs responded quickly though as Brianne Rodrigue delivered a strong shot in the 14th minute to even the score at one apiece.

However, the pinpoint crosses for Cipriano continued when she sent a perfect long corner to fifth-year defenseman Christine Mulligan who nailed the header in the 36th minute to put Toronto ahead 2-1 heading into the break.

In the 61st minute, Blues second-year midfielder Julia Gonsalves widened the gap when the ball found her foot during a scramble in front of the Voyageurs net, and Parkes added her second of the game in the 81st minute off a powerful shot to put the match away for good.

Second-year goalkeeper Stephania Turyk made three saves for the Blues, while Laurentian keeper Heather McGregor finished the afternoon with two.

The Blue and White will next hit the road where they will challenge the Ottawa Gee-Gees (Sept. 1) and Carleton Ravens (Sept 2) in the nation's capital. Kick off for both matches is set for 1 p.m.
