Jack Wadden scored the lone goal as the Varsity Blues men's soccer team narrowly fell, 2-1 in penalty kicks, to the Queen's Gaels on Day 1 of the Old Four Tournament on Saturday (Aug. 19) in London, Ont.
Wadden opened the scoring just before the half, finding the back of the net in the 44th minute.
The Gaels evened the score as Brian Lopez tallied in the 79th minute.
Toronto's Arnaud Nsamirizi, Eniola Sogbesan, Jakkob Grage and Jayden Vernon all scored for the Blues in penalty kicks, but the Gaels scored five to seal the victory.
The Blues went onto fall, 3-1, to the McGill Redmen on Sunday. Russell Rodrigues opened the scoring in the seventh minute, but the Redmen responded in the 42nd minute to even the game at the half. McGill then added two goals in the 68th and 80th minutes to seal the victory.
The Varsity Blues are back in action this Saturday, August 26 as they host the Nipissing Lakers in their 2017 home opener at Varsity Stadium. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.Â
