NO. 6 BLUES SECURE THREE MORE POINTS IN OUA STANDINGS

The No. 6 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the Trent Excalibur 6-2 on Saturday (Oct. 4) afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Blues are at the top of the table in the OUA East with a 7-1-1 record.

Six different Blues found the back of the net in the match and it took just two minutes to open the scoring when fifth-year forward Kingsley Belele found the back of the net. In the 27th minute a goal from first-year midfielder Micah Joseph extended the lead to 2-0 going into halftime.

The Blues momentum carried into the second half as 15 seconds in, fourth-year midfielder Russell Stewart scored the eventual game-winning goal. Trent fought back as a 53rd minute goal from John Moncada got them on the board. Moncada added a second goal of the match in the 70th minute as U of T's lead was cut down to one goal.

The Blues kept their foot on the gas pedal with three insurance goals to put the game out of reach. A goal from first-year standout Jordan Grey regained Toronto's two goal advantage. Meanwhile, an 85th minute goal from third-year midfielder Quinton Chung and a 90th minute goal from second-year defender John Ntoukas served as important insurance makers as the Blues secured an important three-points in the standings.

Second-year goalkeeper Filip Zendelek made six saves.

The Blues are back in action on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs in their final regular season home game at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets., U of T students get free entry with a valid T-Card. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
