NO. 6 BLUES EXTEND WIN STREAK TO THREE GAMES

The No. 6 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 3-0 on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Varsity Stadium.

The Blues have extended their win streak to three straight as they hold an 8-1-1 record and sit at the top of the OUA East standings with 25 points.
After a pregame ceremony honouring the graduating Blues, U of T took the field eager to gain points as the playoffs are looming. In the 38th minute first-year forward Gianluca Scurti opened the scoring when he capitalized on a pass from fourth-year midfielder Michael Osorio. On a near identical play in the 40th minute, Scurti notched his second goal of the match, this time off a feed from second-year midfielder Niklas Hallam to give Toronto a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Laurentian pushed for offence in the second half but second-year goaltender Filip Zendelek was up to the task. The Churchill, Ont., native made some of the best of his four saves on the afternoon to keep U of T ahead by two goals. Hallam added an insurance maker in the 65th minute, taking advantage of a failed clearance from Laurentian's defence. A stout defensive game until the final whistle, the Blues capped off their regular season home finale with a victory.

Toronto and Laurentian are back on the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon in Sudbury, Ont., with just two games remaining in the regular season. Kick off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
