BLUES GO 1-1 AT WHITTIER INVITATIONAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team wrapped up their California road trip at the Whittier Invitational on Saturday, February 25.

Toronto 11, Claremont 10 (OT)

The Varsity Blues won its second straight game against California opposition in dramatic fashion.

The Blues cruised out to a 6-2 second quarter lead and then sagged to 10-10 regulation time score.

In the second overtime period, Megan MacCormac (Ottawa) converted a penalty shot to secure the win.

MacCormac led the way with four goals, while co-captain Ana Miroslavic (Toronto) netted a hattrick.   Ali Kraft (California) and Kassie Fraser (Vancouver) added a pair of goals each.

Whittier 8, Toronto 4

A few hours later the Blues were back in the pool to face a tough Whittier squad.  The Blues employed a slowdown tactic that got the team within one goal (5-4) with a minute to go in the third quarter.  However, there was no more gas in their tanks and the Blues fell 8-4.

MacCormac again led the way with two goals while singles went to Kraft and Fraser.

The  Blues completed their first-ever NCAA California schools tour with a record of 2-4.

Next weekend the Blues travel to Boston for the Harvard Invitational and four games against NCAA Division 1 universities.
