BLUES SEASON COMES TO AN END IN NARROW PLAYOFF LOSS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Gee-Gees in OUA playoff action on Wednesday night (Oct. 25) in Ottawa.

With the loss, the Blues wrap up their 2017 campaign with a 7-8-2 record through regular season and playoff action.

Sophomore goalkeeper Vanna Staggolis was dominant in net, making nine saves before the Gee-Gees found the back of the mesh. Ottawa opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a goal off the foot of Sophie Curtis.

The Blues had a chance to even the match just before halftime, but a long-range free kick sailed over the net.

Toronto's veterans attempted to rally the troops in the second half with some speedy footwork and precision passing, but Ottawa's backline was hard to penetrate.

With 15 minutes remaining, the Blues turned up the pressure but were unable to solve Ottawa goalkeeper Margot Shore.

Staggolis ended the night with 17 saves.
