BLUES CLAIM OUA BRONZE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team defeated the host Laurier Golden Hawks 12-8 in the bronze-medal match of the 2017 OUA championship on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 22) in Kitchener, Ont.

The third-place finish marks Toronto's first medal finish since 2014, when the Blues also claimed the bronze.

Leading 6-3 at the half, the Blues exploded for three unanswered goals to add a cushion to their lead. Laurier added a late push, but Toronto scored three more to secure the victory.

Sarah Jamieson led the Blues with four goals, while fellow veteran Melissa Holland had three goals and one assist on the day.

Both Heather McDougall and Geneva Calder scored twice, with Mary Anne Meerasabeer adding one in the win.

Jamieson was named an OUA first team all-star, while veteran defender June Shiraishi, as well as Calder and Meerasabeer earned second team honours.
