SECOND HALF STRUGGLES SINK BLUES

Box Score Allowing three second half goals to the visiting Queen's Gaels, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped their Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9) matchup 3-1 at Varsity Stadium.

After a first half which featured a back-and-forth battle in the midfield, the Gaels came out firing forcing Blues goalkeeper Tori Edgar into action early and often.

Following a huge save on a Queen's open attack, Edgar was unable to hold off the Gaels any further as a scramble following a corner found the foot of Brittany Almeida who scored the contests opening goal in the 55th minute.

From there Toronto was unable to recover allowing two more goals within ten minutes from Rachel Radu and Almeida.

Brenda Murillo scored a late marker for the Blues to end the Gaels shutout, delivering a beautiful header off a cross but it was too late to mount a comeback.

Edgar finished the match with two saves.

Queen's goalkeeper Madison Tyrell made three saves.

The Varsity Blues return to the pitch this Wednesday, October 12 when they play visitor to city rival Ryerson Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
