Box Score Five different players scored as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the RMC Paladins 7-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 20) at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 5-2-1 and remain in second place in the OUA East division at the midway point of the season.
Second-year striker Chelsea Cheung opened the scoring in the 8th minute when she headed in a nice cross from rookie midfielder Julia Gonsavles.
Laura Krkachovski added to Toronto's lead when she capitalized on a rebound off an Alexandra Rocha free kick in the 19th minute. It marked the third-year defender's first career goal in the Blue and White.
Rookie midfielder Natasha Klasios added her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 24th minute, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Less than a minute later, Julia Gonsalves sent a beautiful curving shot at net, beating the RMC goalkeeper from 25 yards out.
Cheung notched her second goal of the game in the 38th minute, intercepting a clearing ball from an RMC defender and firing it into the bottom right corner. Toronto took a 5-0 lead at the half.
First-year defender Riana Vumbaca notched her first goal as a Varsity Blue in the 84th minute and Klasios added her second of the game one minute later, getting her own rebound in the 86th minute.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, October 3 when they travel to Peterborough, Ont., to take on the Trent Excalibur. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
