The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team were victorious Wednesday night (Sept. 16) as they began a three-game home stand, defeating the Trent Excalibur 6-1.

Rookie striker Natasha Klasios recorded her first career hat trick as she found success in the middle of the field, bodying her way past several Trent defenders throughout the night. Klasios opened the scoring in the 6th minute when she slyly slipped past the Trent defence to easily beat the keeper for the early 1-0 lead.

However, Trent evened the score in the 13th minute as striker Haley Giles was able to quickly capitalize on a Blues defensive miscue.

Just over five minutes later in the 19th minute, Klasios notched her second goal of the night to take back the lead for the Blues. The Unionville, Ont. native bullied her defender off the ball before guiding it past the attacking Trent goalkeeper.

As the game approached the halftime break the Excalibur would have one last shot to even the score when a strong run down the left wing opened up a cross opportunity. However, it was turned aside by Varsity Blues keeper Sara Petrucci, securing the 2-1 Toronto halftime lead.

The second half saw a strong start for the Blues as Klasios finished off the hat trick on a hard shot from just inside the 18-yard box, putting Toronto up 3-1 in the 50th minute.

The Blues pulled away in the final 15 minutes with goals from Alex Rocha (75th minute), Brenda Murillo (77th minute), and Zoe Carty (80th minute).

Toronto will now prepare for a pair of home games over the weekend as they get set to face-off with the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, September  19 before hosting RMC on Sunday, September 20. Both games will kick-off at 1 p.m. at Varsity Centre.
