CIS/CCA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's curling team is in Waterloo, Ont., for the 2015 CIS / CCA curling championships, March 18-21, at the KW Granite Club.

Eight teams of each gender will compete in the eighth edition of these championships, which are staged in partnership between Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and Curling Canada.

The teams play a round robin ending Friday evening, followed by semifinals pitting 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 on Saturday morning, with the winners advancing to their respective finals Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET. At the same time, the bronze-medal games will be played involving the losers of the semifinals.

Toronto's men of skip Evan Lilly, vice Jack Lindsay, second Richard Seto and lead Pedro Malvar kick off the tournament versus the UNB Varsity Reds Wednesday at 8 a.m. The Blues won the OUA bronze medal last month, and look to improve upon their 2-5 record at last year's national bonspiel.

No university has won the men's title more than once. Previous winners are the University of Waterloo's Jake Walker in 2013 (at Kamloops, B.C.), University of Alberta's Brendan Bottcher in 2012 (at Welland, Ont.), Memorial University's Colin Thomas in 2011 (at St. John's), Queen's University's Jonathan Beuk in 2010 (at Edmonton) and the University of Regina's Chris Busby in 2009 (at Montreal).
