The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team fell 14-9 to the Queen's Gaels but bounced back with a big 18-1 victory over the York Lions on Saturday, October 10 at Varsity Centre.
The Blues are now 8-2 and tied with the Gaels for first place in the OUA East division.
Queen's 14, Toronto 9Toronto got out to a quick two-goal lead with goals from Melissa Holland and Sarah Jamieson. The Gaels fought back to even the score at 2-2 in the early goings, and MacKenzie Clemons scored three first-half goals as Queen's took a 7-6 lead at halftime.
The Gaels took the lead for good, scoring four goals in the first nine minutes of the second half.
Jamieson led Toronto with four goals, while Holland had two. Mary Anne Meerasabeer, Zoe Chad, and Sarah Hill added single tallies in the loss.
Toronto 18, York 1Melissa Holland and Mary Anne Meerasabeer led Toronto with five goals each, while Chenez Power had four on the day. Lynn Li added two and both Zoe Chad and Alex Walton scored one in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow morning as they head to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders. Game time is set for 9:45 a.m.Â
