BLUES LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT

Box Score

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, September 6.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-1-1 and sit in a three-way tie for fifth place with Laurentian and Nipissing in the OUA East division.

Ottawa opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play when striker Faythe Lou (Surrey, B.C.) buried one to give the Gee-Gees an early lead. Shortly after, fourth-year veteran Julia Francki (Oreleans, Ont.) gave Ottawa the insurance goal and put them ahead 2-0 after 17 minutes.

After over 70 minutes of scoreless play, Toronto rallied late in the game with a Nicki Parkes (Sarnia, Ont.) goal at the 88th minute. The Blues surge wasn't quite enough as Ottawa was able to hold their lead for a 2-1 victory.

U of T goalkeeper Sara Petrucci (Bolton, Ont.) was solid in goal for the Varsity Blues, allowing only two goals on 15 shots on goal. Gee-Gees keeper Cynthia Leblanc (Granby, Que.) also held her ground with 10 saves in the match.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they face the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa at 1 p.m
