BLUES FALL TO NO. 2 GEE-GEES

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 2 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday, October 5 at Varsity Centre.
 
With the loss, the Blues drop to 6-4-1 and remain in fourth place in the OUA East, while Ottawa improves to 11-1-0 and sit atop the standings.
 
The Gee-Gees got on the board first as they were awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute. After Pilar Koury was taken down in the box, Ottawa's Chara Quadri stepped up for the PK and fired the ball off Blues goalkeeper Sara Petrucci and into the bottom left corner of the net.
 
The Blues had a good chance to even the score three minutes later as Chelsea Cheung got the ball off a turnover in the box, but her shot sailed just over the net. Ottawa held onto the 1-0 lead at the half.
 
The Gee-Gees went ahead in the 58th minute. After Petrucci made a couple of big saves, Sophie Curtis buried a rebound to extend the visiting team's lead to two.
 
The Blues almost got on the board in the 72nd minute when Alyssa Golin sent a booming shot on net but Ottawa keeper Cynthia LeBlanc jumped up to make a big save.
 
Petrucci posted five saves in the loss.
 
The Varsity Blues honoured graduating athlete and co-captain Lisa English in a special pre-game ceremony.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 11 as they head to Kingston, Ont., to take on the RMC Paladins. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
