The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team heads to Oshawa, Ont., for the 2014 OUA championship, October 31-November 2, hosted by the UOIT Ridgebacks.
U of T is coming off an exceptional regular season, finishing with a 9-2-1 record as the top seeds in the East. The Blues will open the tournament on Friday night (Oct. 31) at 7:45 p.m. versus the winner of the Guelph Gryphons/York Lions game earlier in the afternoon.
A win will solidify Toronto's chance to play for a medal on Sunday and push the squad to Saturday's semi-final round. U of T defeated the Gryphons 15-5 and the Lions 18-0 in regular season play this year.
The Blues have placed fifth at the last two provincial championships, and fourth for two years prior to that. Toronto will look to earn their first medal since 2009 and first OUA banner since the 2002 season.
Toronto outscored their opponents 167 to 80 in 12 games this season. Offensively, the team is led by veteran Taryn Grieder and sophomore Sarah Jamieson. A two-time OUA all-star with the Blues, Grieder led the team in scoring with 34 goals this season, while Jamieson tallied 32 goals.
Melissa Holland and Katie McCurdy each recorded 22 goals, with Christine Neatby adding 15 so far this year.
The Blues will look to goalie Anna Goulding to continue her stellar play. The Oshawa, Ont., native helped the Blues to a 6.66 goals against average during regular season play.
