Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team secured home field advantage with a 2-0 victory over the Trent Excalibur on Wednesday night (Oct. 15) at Varsity Centre.
The win improves the Blues record to 9-4-1 and secures at least a top four spot with two games remaining in the OUA East division.
First-year striker Alexandra Rigby opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, sending a booming shot into the far right side of the net.
Second-year midfielder Claudia Piazza notched an insurance marker in the 90th minute, her seventh goal of the season, to round out the scoring.
Trent goalkeeper Annalise Buchowski turned aside 12 shots, while Blues netminder Sara Petrucci posted four stops in the shut out win.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Saturday, October 18 as they head to North Bay, Ont., to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
