BLUES NOTCH FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Fourth-year striker Aisha Lewis scored in the 56th minute to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Varsity Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to 1-2-0, while the Lakers sit even at 1-1-1 in the OUA East division.

After a scoreless first half, Lewis (Mississauga) notched her second goal of the season, sending a hard shot past Lakers goalkeeper Carlee Bennard (Burlington, Ont.) and into the bottom right corner of the net.

The Blues dominated the match, outshooting Nipissing 13-4. Lewis registered four of Toronto's 13 shots, with sophomore striker Christine Zwimpfer (North Vancouver) adding three on the day.

Third-year goalkeeper Sara Petrucci of Bolton made four saves in the shut out victory.

The Varsity Blues return to the field tomorrow as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at Varsity Centre. The game will be streamed live at GoBlues.tv starting at 12 p.m.

The University of Toronto is the proud host of the 2013 CIS women's soccer championship, November 7-10, at Varsity Centre.
