The Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team defeated the Queen's Gaels 11-8 to cap off a 3-0 weekend on Sunday, September 29 in Peterborough, Ont.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-1, with their only loss coming at the hand of the OUA defending champion Western Mustangs.
Veteran Taryn Grieder (Cobourg, Ont.) led the Blues with three goals and three assists, while rookie standout Sarah Jamieson had two goals and two assists. Melissa Holland added two goals, while Olivia Lubanski, Kelly Robinson Larissa Boychuk and Mary Anne Meerasabeer each scored once in the win. Lubanski's tally was the first of her four-year career with the Blues.
Grieder and Jamieson each scored two in the first half as the Blues built a 7-3 lead at the midway point of the game. The Gaels attempted to rally with five in the second half, but the Blues kept them at bay and held on for the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Sunday, October 6 as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks and Brock Badgers at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. Game times are 8 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., respectively.
