The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's lacrosse team opened their season with two big wins against the York Lions and McMaster Marauders on Saturday, September 14 in Guelph, Ont.
Toronto outmatched the Lions in their first game of the day winning 17-4. Leading the scoring for the Blues was veteran Taryn Grieder (Cobourg, Ont.), who tallied six goals in the game. Rookie midfielder Sarah Jamieson (Etobicoke, Ont.) also had her share of the goal scoring, netting a hat trick in her first game as a Varsity Blue.
Toronto finished the day with a close game verse the Marauders, coming out on top 12-9. Grieder and Jamieson again took over the Blues goal scoring. Grieder added four more to her day's tally, while Jamieson put up another three.
McMaster kept the pressure on the Blues with third-year Kyra Reilly putting away four goals as the Marauders top goal scorer for the game.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 15, as they face the Western Mustangs in Guelph, Ont. Game time is set for 4.45 p.m.
