The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team kept their undefeated streak alive with a 2-0 win over the RMC Paladins on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13) at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 9-2-3 and remain in second place in the OUA East division with two games to go in the regular season. Toronto is undefeated in their last 12 games, having not lost since opening weekend versus Ottawa and Carleton.
After a scoreless first half, the Blues were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box in the 62nd minute. Team captain Aisha Lewis of Mississauga, Ont., stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for the eventual game-winner.
Two minutes later, first-year defender Christine Mulligan (Vancouver) sent a booming shot from 40 yards out into the back of the net.
Blues goalkeeper Sara Petrucci earned the shut out victory.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, October 19 as they head to Ottawa to take on the No. 1 Gee-Gees. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
This being the final regular season home game, the Varsity Blues honoured graduating seniors Fatima Braimoh, Caroline Murphy, Diana Esteireiro, Lisa English and Aisha Lewis in a special pre-game ceremony.Â
