Varsity Blues rookie wrestling standout Grace Bannerman finished second overall in her weight category at the Brock Open on Saturday, January 12 in St. Catharines, Ont.
Bannerman handily dispatched her provincial rivals, Ashley Everett from Guelph and Kate Beautieu from Lakehead, before losing the gold-medal match to Tonya Keegan from Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania.
Grace has medaled in every tournament in which she's competed in this season.
"Grace has shown determination, strength and the ability to win. The exciting thing is that she continues to improve every time she steps on the mat,” said Varsity Blues head coach Michael Quinsey. “I'm glad that she had the opportunity to face the Lock Haven wrestler, even though she didn't win. It gives us some clear information about the areas we need to work on."
