STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS BLUES OVER LAKERS

The Varsity Blues women’s soccer team notched their third straight win with a 3-1 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, September 16 in North Bay, Ont.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 3-1-2, while the Lakers drop to 0-4-2.
 
The Blues dominated the match, outshooting the Lakers 15-5; however it was the Lakers who opened the scoring with a goal from Stefani Giftopoulos in the 18th minute. The home team held a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
Rookie striker LaShuanna Harper (Toronto) got the Blues on the board in the 46th minute and fourth-year veteran Jessica Fantozzi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) tallied the go-ahead goal in the 73rd. Fantozzi would add an insurance marker in the 90th minute to seal the win.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Petrucci (Bolton, Ont.) made four saves in the win.
 
The Varsity Blues return home this Wednesday, September 19 as they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
