First-year striker LaShuanna Harper and fourth-year defender Mel Bowen each scored to lead the third-place Varsity Blues women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Laurentian Lady Vees on Saturday afternoon (Sept.15) in Sudbury, Ont.
With the win, the Blues improve to 2-1-2 record, while the Voyageurs drop to 3-1-1, but still hold second place in the OUA East division.
All in all, the Blues had control over this game in a strong victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs. The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes before Bowen notched her first goal of the season. Harper put the game to bed with a goal in the 66
th minute.
For the greater part of the game, Toronto was the more aggressive team, having eight shots on goal, compared to Laurentian’s three. Sara Petrucci made three saves in the shut out win.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 16 when they travel to North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
