The Varsity Blues women’s soccer team came out with a strong 3-1 victory over the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, October 6 at West Campus Field in Kingston, Ont.  
With the win, the Blues sit in fourth place with a 6-3-2 record, while the Gaels remain tied for second with the Carleton Ravens in an extremely competitive OUA East Division.
The Blues opened up the scoring in the first half when both Mel Bowen (West Vancouver, B.C.) and Diana Esteiroeiro (Etobicoke, Ont.) capitalized and scored in the 20
th and 22
nd minute.
Down 2-0 late in the game, the Gaels were determined to make a comeback as Winnipeg native Jackie Tessier closed the gap with a late goal in the 73
rd minute.
However, the Blues were quick to respond as veteran striker Aisha Lewis (Mississauga, Ont.) put the game away with a goal in the 83
rd minute.
On top of aggressive offence, Bolton Native Sara Petrucci put up yet another impressive outing saving two of the three shots in the game. With these two crucial saves, she now holds an impressive save percentage of 75% on the season. 
The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 7 when they take on the RMC Paladins at the Navy Bay Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
