The No. 10 Varsity Blues women’s soccer team tied the CIS defending champion Queen’s Gaels 3-3 on Sunday, September 25 in Kingston, Ont.
With the draw, the Blues are now 4-1-3 and sit in third place in the OUA East division.
U of T got out to a good start but found themselves down 2-0 at the half as the Gaels capitalized on their chances.
Second-year forward Mel Bowen of North Vancouver, B.C., came out in the second half and scored two goals within 11 minutes to even the score.
The Gaels fought back and scored another to regain a one-goal advantage; however, U of T was awarded a penalty shot and third-year defender Diana Esteireiro made no mistake, firing a hard shot into the back of the net to even the score.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, October 1 as they travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Lady Vees. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
