The Varsity Blues women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 with a 12-11 win over the Queen’s Gaels and 17-4 loss to the Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 24 in Kingston, Ont.
Veteran midfielder Tori Wasson of Peterborough, Ont. was dominant versus Queen`s, scoring six goals in the win. Cobourg, Ont. native Taryn Grieder was equally impressive, registering four goals and five assists for a team-high nine points.
The Gaels were led by a four-goal performance from Jacqueline Byers of Mississauga, Ont.
Grieder continued her strong play in the second game, scoring three of the Blue’s four goals, to earn the hat trick. Katie McCurdy of Orillia, Ont. would register the only other goal for the Blues, and Toronto native Sarah Woodward also picked up an assist to give her points in both games.
However, the Mustang’s offense would prove too powerful, with Rebecca Watson posting a hat trick and two assists to lead Western to victory.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, October 1 as they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 4:45 p.m.
