WOMEN’S WATER POLO CROWNED OUA CHAMPIONS

Casey Pottier’s five goals led the Varsity Blues women’s water polo team to a 9-4 victory over the Carleton Ravens en route to their first OUA title since 2008 on Sunday afternoon in Ottawa.

In the fourth consecutive OUA final that featured Toronto and Carleton, the Blues avenged a 7-3 round-robin loss to the Ravens and Pottier continued to lead the charge.  The Kitchener, Ont., native ended the championship with 16 goals over five games played and earned the Roy Gunell Trophy as the most valuable player for her efforts.

U of T's Breanna Gadzosa was named the most valuable goalie, while both Nicole Brown and Brittany Sinclair earned OUA all-star status.

The Blues jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. After a scoreless second quarter, U of T opened the flood gates with five third-quarter goals to build a comfortable lead that would not diminish. Toronto added two more insurance markers in the fourth to round out the five-goal win.

Brown added three goals, while Danielle Zinardo had a single tally in the victory.

The Blues last won the title in 2008, with the Ravens taking the past two banners on one- and two-goal victories over Toronto. This is U of T's fourth OUA title since winning the inaugural event in 1988.
