The Varsity Blues women’s lacrosse team went 0-2 falling 12-11 to the Laurier Golden Hawks and 8-5 to the Guleph Gryphons on Sunday, October 2.
In the first game of the day, the Blues found themselves down to Laurier 7-4 at the half. Toronto rallied and tied it up at 10-10 with a few minutes remaining. Despite their best efforts, the Blues could not complete the comeback as Laurier’s Meg Austraialo and Jory Garibalde added late tallies to secure a one-goal win.
Veteran Taryn Grieder led all players with four goals and two assists, while Tori Wasson was equally as impressive with four goals and one assist. Katie McCurdy and Sarah Woodward added single tallies in the loss.
Toronto got out to a quick 3-1 lead versus Guelph in the second game of the day; however, the Gryphons rallied and scored four unanswered goals to build a 5-3 lead at halftime. Guelph picked up where they left off with another three tallies before the Blues could get back on the board.
Wasson had two goals and both Susan Tung Carly Heitzner added one goal and one assist in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, October 8 as they travel to Waterloo, Ont., for a rematch versus the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time is set for 9 a.m.
