Taryn Grieder scored three times for the U of T Varsity Blues women’s lacrosse team in a 9-8 losing battle against the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15) in Hamilton, Ont.
A Cobourg, Ont., native, Grieder recorded an assist and scored twice in the first half, before securing the hat trick in the second half.
Two other Blues players helped to keep the scoring hot in a cold and rainy battle. Orillia, Ont., native and rookie midfielder Katie McCurdy had two goals and an assist, while veteran Tori Wasson of Peterborough, Ont., added two points of her own.
The Blues led 5-3 going into the half but the Gaels battled back, scoring six goals to secure the win.
The Gaels were lead by Jacqueline Byers (Mississauga) who had a game-high four goals and one assist. Teresa Mayo also fueled the second half comeback scoring twice and adding an assist of her own.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow, Sunday, October 16, when they take on the UOIT Ridgebacks in Hamilton, Ont. The game starts at 2:15 p.m.
